The Tour typically stays under 6,400 yards. If the options are 6,000 or 6,500 the default tees will be 6,000. Majors events are typically longer courses and may exceed the 6,400 threshold.
The Super Opens will offer two sets of tees, single digit handicaps will play one back of the double digit handicaps.
Ages 59 or older will have the option play one up. The handicap is adjusted for tees, meaning moving up reduce the course handicap for you.
The SIG Tour uses the USGA model as its backbone but applies it in a league-only format. Your handicap is calculated only from SIG Tour event scores, not outside rounds or an official GHIN. This keeps the playing field level across all members.
What about sandbagging? You don’t need to worry about it here. Since only verified league scores count, there’s no way to hide rounds or cherry-pick scores. Every score is public, every adjustment is automatic, and handicaps update quickly based on performance. Over time, the system evens out “hot” or “off” rounds and locks in an accurate number.
The end result: a fair, competitive handicap that reflects how you actually play in SIG events – not just how you play on your own. To make you low handicaps feel better, a 4-5 handicap won the Tour Championship last year. And to make you high handicaps feel better, a 27 handicap was 1 stroke away from making the playoff.
